The Institute of Geomatics (IG) was founded in 1997. It i s a public consortium with own legal entity, composed of the Gener alitat de Catalunya (the local government of Catalonia) and the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC). Its mission is the development of geomatics through applied research and education in support of society, institutional and industry needs both at national and international levels.
The IG and/or its members have a two decade experience in sensor data fusion in the area of geomatics, mainly in Photogrammetry, Earth Observation, Geodesy and Navigation. More specifically, Dr. Ismael Colomina, the Institute’s director and head of the “Integrated Geodesy and Navigation” (GIN) research unit has a long experience in the use of GPS and its integration with inertial sensors. At the IG, he and his team, have developed and used the INS/GPS technology in various fields ranging from the real-time INS/GPS trajectory/attitude determination with low-cost sensors to high-precision a posteriori trajectory reconstruction with navigation-grade sensors.
Asociación de la Industria Navarra (AIN) was founded in 1963. It is a private non-profit organization, which is owned by 154 companies. It was created to promote and carry out research and services which, because their novelty, innovation or difficulty, cannot easily be found in Navarra and/or in other surrounding regions. According to this mission, its main activity is the development of RTD projects, improving the competitiveness of different industries both at regional and national levels. At this moment, 150 people (85% with university degrees) work in AIN.
The Measurement, Communication and Control Group (MCCG) is a unit of AIN with a long experience in remote sensing and unmanned vehicles. In the last twenty years, its staff has developed dozens of projects increasing their knowledge and experience in remote sensing, infrared maintenance systems, vibration and non-destructive analysis
DEIMOS Engenharia S.A. (DME),the Portuguese branch of the DEIMOS group, is specialized in developing solutions for the space sector, either in the area of engineering analysis and studies, or in the area of software development for both, on-board systems, as well as Ground Segment Systems.
DME has been consolidating a multidisciplinary team of highly experienced engineers, capable of delivering innovative approaches to problems supported on meticulous project methodologies, so that the company is now working in the most relevant European space programmes, namely in the Galileo Programme. A high degree of specialization and the flexibility to adapt to the needs of our customers are the fundamental characteristics of DEIMOS. This combined with the stability and solid foundations that come from being part of a large industrial group make DEIMOS a trusted and reliable partner for high-tech projects.
Ecole Polytechnique Fédéral de Lausanne (EPFL) is one of the two Federal Institutes of Technology in Switzerland. Like its sister institution, ETHZ, it has three missions: education, research and technology transfer at the highest international level. Associated with several specialised research institutes, the two EPFs form the EPF domain, which is directly dependent on the Federal Department of Home Affairs. With more than 250 laboratories and research groups on campus, EPFL is one of Europe's most innovative and productive technology institutes. The origin of the TOPO lab traces back to the over 150-year old school history. The lab represents a research unit (one professor, 3 senior scientists and 5 PhD students) within the School of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering (ENAC).
TOPO lab has both lecturing and research activities and excels in various competences like: geodesy, surveying and cartography; acquisition, modelling, analysis and management of spatially referenced data; development of algorithms in field of geodesy, navigation and mobile-mapping; integration and calibration of sensors, modelling and estimation; d evelopment in the field of satellite positioning, inertial navigation, high-precision surveying and monitoring; and transfer of technology to industry.
The Institut Cartogràfic de Catalunya (ICC) was created in 1982 as an autonomous commercial, industrial and financial institution of the Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan Autonomous Government). At present, since June 1997 it turned into a public corporation owned by the Generalitat de Catalunya. Within this framework, the ICC undertakes institutional cartographic projects of general interest for Catalonia, in addition to innovation studies and projects commissioned or requested by both public and private organizations from Catalonia, Spain and other countries.
The main objective of the ICC is to carry out technical tasks for the development of cartographic and geological information in Catalonia. In the research area, this involves tasks such as the preparation, reproduction and distribution of basic cartographic works; the densification and conservation of the lower order geodetic network and its integration in the Integrated Geodetic Positioning System of Catalonia; the execution of thematic cartography development programs (geological, avalanche, geodesy, land uses, transports and communications, etc.) and cartography directed towards the evaluation of resources (the state of vegetation, areas affected by fires, snow coverage, subsidence, etc.) through the use of remote sensing techniques, among many others.
The Direcció General de Protecció Civil (DGPC) is an organization that depends on the Ministry of Interior and Institutional Relations of the local government of Catalonia whose main objective is to develop a system aimed at civil protection in the Catalan territory. Civil Protection may be defined as public system composed of several public and private services that manage the strategy targeted at avoiding, reducing or correcting damages caused, by whatever reason, either to people, goods, public property or the environment, when their consequences amount to critical or calamity extent. Because of this, the participation of the DGPC in the consortium is essential even though they are not an SME.
